Teapots Everywhere!

I know I haven't posted in about ten days...however, this does not mean I haven't been productive. I just didn't have much time to post. As a result, I have a lot of work to go over in this post, get ready to read a lot.

I actually recently started school! This plays into my productivity because I decided to take a 3D Animation class. I hope this will help guide me into which department in the animation world I really would want to work for. Hopefully, in the future I will post some stuff I made from 3DsMax. I just wanted to share my first 3D object, which was a teapot! However, I do not have a snapshot of my own teapot. This isn't as great as you think it is though, the teapot is literally a stencil (just like photoshop with stars and circles) that lets you drag and drop it into 3-D space! Haha, well the important part to sharing that was because even though my teacher wanted us to start off with a circle, I was like  (obnoxious self) no! It has to be a teapot because the first 3D animation object was a teapot! (he just told us that it was)   (/obnoxious self) Thus I ended up using a teapot as a base object instead. (I'm such a rebel)

I know it's been a long time since I did a drawing, but I am here now to show I am not lazy. Since my last sketch was a male, I felt it was time to sketch a female figure.

At first, the sketch of the basic limbs went pretty well and I was pretty surpised how quickly I was able to do a quick sketch of it all, then after that was done I went to outlining using the smoothing too. Also, since the last time I used the smoothing tool was on a logo, I was really excited to use it for a legit outlining of something. I love it!

As for the stance, I really had no idea where I was going with this until I randomly slapped an evil looking face to her right. So I thought I'd draw a minion type of thing to maybe freak her out?  (I'm weird)

I recently have been practicing eyes a lot, so I am really happy how the ones on the girl turned out. I feel I am getting better at doing hands since I didn't spend forever sketching it out for once. However, I still feel it's one of my big weak points. The clothes came pretty easy for once, but I do not think I know have to draw anything else on a person aside from school girl/boy uniforms! That is a problem. I take great pride in her hair at this point, I do not know if I got lucky on it or if I really knew what I was doing while shading it. However, let's hope I keep it up since I really do like the style of her hair shading. Last time I drew something I said I wanted to do more backgrounds, so here it is! Something feels a little empty about it though, maybe I should have added a desk or something? She is in math class, since during the majority of this drawing, I was also studying for a math quiz on the side. The minion looking thing... my full opinion of it is that I really don't like him. Simply because you can tell I got super lazy when it came to sketching and coloring him. I just felt like I needed a reason for her like shocked/blushing reaction. Something seems a bit off about the girl's legs, I feel I should have put the kneecap bend in more. One more thing I wanted to add is that; I love the water tool.

I have decided to make this new type of assignment, which is to turn in an online sketchbook! A lot of people have actual sketchbooks (I actually recently started one as well) I have been very entire sketchbook these past like 4 years, mainly to do with a tragic moment when my dear sketchbook was stolen by a crazy chick... Anyways, I am proud to present an online sketchbook, where I'll turn in around ten sketches at a time. Most of these sketches will most likely be quick, but who knows if I'd wish to turn them into a fully outlined and colored piece later!

Sketch1- My hands are not there
Just a random girl with no hands, I really didn't like how I colored her hair or anything. Her clothes look super awkward too! X_X

 Sketch2- Aliens
I actually do like what I did with this girl's hair, but everything else about her freaks me out. (I feel she looks like an alien) However, I'd be lieing if I said this wasn't a good stepping stone for me

Sketch3- Fanart
This is my first fan-art type of work I guess. It's from this show called Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop). I find this show completely adorable! So I decided to draw the two main characters. Anyways, I was really not happy with how the male character was turning out so I decided not to continue this.
Sketch4- I see you
I decided it was time to buckle down and get more experienced with coloring eyes! After several attempts I came up with these two, however I still need to practice several different styles because I do not want to keep doing the same types.

 Sketch5- This is not fan-art
Believe it or not, but this is not fan art. I started to randomly sketch a boy with a scarf (I really like drawing scarves). Anyways, as you can see I totally just did whatever with his other clothes. I mainly wanted to concentrate the hair and eyes with this piece. At the end, it somehow started to look like Marth from Fire Emblem.

Sketch6- Youtellfunnyjokes.jpeg
I really liked the sketch for this, however when it came down to the outline I got immensely lazy as you can see from everything besides the face. I really need to get better at drawing clothes that aren't school uniforms.

Sketch7-  She got that hair
I was mainly trying out a different type of hair style with this.

Sketch8- So sad
Random guy.

Sketch9- Iono
 Random drawing, decided to put two people in it since most of my sketches have only had one person.

Sketch10- Meow
I need to also start practicing how to draw more realistic looking things. I attempted to use the airbrush to make something look kind of decent, but yeah that failed so I scribbled all over and wrote Meow.

I feel the sketchbook so far is going pretty well. As you can see I do not really write much on them, mainly because they were mostly done pretty quickly. I was told that sketching really quick and then jumping to sketching other things will really help my drawing skill overall, so I hope that's true! Every time I'll upload my online sketch book I'll make sure it's at least 10 sketches, even if they are super quick and sloppy!

Okay, as you can see this post is extremely long. This is because I was not lying when I said I have been productive this week and just haven't had time to post. Of course this means a extremely long post and whoever is reading this is probably getting annoyed with me. My apologies. (imagine how proof reading will go for myself..)

I have one last thing to show before I wrap this post up. That is earlier I said I started a 3-D animation class, well during class today we made tables! I took a snapshot and put it on my flash drive just so I can show off (c'mon I was really excited about making a table and wanted to post it on here, can you blame me?)
The table wasn't really that hard to construct honestly. While my teacher was taking about stuff, I managed to totally mess up my table design and decided to start from scratch again. He does have a tutorial online on how to do it, but I was too lazy to access it. I ended up designing the table without the tutorial! I was really proud with myself. Let's hope I feel more confident designing other objects too because so far the program has really intimidated me. (Also I tinted the pictured purple because I felt the complete gray looked boring) My homework for the class is to design a table, chair, a plate, and a cup! Hopefully those will show up in my next couple of posts.

Next Time:
  • Post sooner so I won't do a massive post like this again..
  • For the School girl drawing I did (at the beginning of post) It took forever, a lot of my friends who are amazingly good at drawing only spend about 1-2 hours on their work. Mine took about 4-5 hours. I know I am still knew to more anime drawing stuff (I mainly do logos) However, it would make it a lot better for me to become more efficient at it all.
  • Show the HW from 3Ds Max? (if I finish it by then)
  • Learn more eye-styles
  • Get better at hands and feet..
  • draw more realistic stuff.
  • Proof read my blog post next time ( I didn't proof read the entire thing because I was lazy)

Llamas must die.

I have to say this is about the worst logo I've done so far. I am really not proud of this.. I was really stumped when it came to designing this... I kept on putting it off as well because I didn't want to see his llama-awesome-face cross breed. Anyway, I  tried making it look shiny and stuff. I did the lines with Sai, I recently found out about the "Smoother" option in Sai and became in love with it, now I am 100% sure I like Sai more than photoshop when it comes to sketching. For all my line-art I will be using Sai for now on. Anyway, I guess this is my first work using the smoother tool. I am not too sure if this will even be the final version of this logo, depends on if the guy who wanted it likes it enough or just discards it and asks for a new design. (I wouldn't blame him) I usually would scrap stuff I don't like myself and start over, but I was really fed up with this llama business.

EDIT 08/21: NOOO! It's back! D: okay so it turns out the person wanted it to be white and with teeth. I just made the corrections and sent it back (this is how logo designing is like.. they will keep asking for corrections and stuff) He also did not wish for the gloss I put on the llama. I don't mind at all because in the end I like doing this stuff and I want the customer to be satisfied~ Also,  I feel this is a good work experience to me and I am very grateful for it.

EDIT 08/23: The guy seemed to like it, which I was happy about. Since it is basically his logo now (I sold it to him) I decided this needed a watermark,

Llama, video, and layout

I know it's been a while since I posted ( I want to try doing a post every day), however I was really caught up with all the productive work I was doing and thought maybe I can just put all my productivity in one post.

So, two weeks ago I was asked to do a logo. I thought this would be perfect to add more stuff on my portfolio~ Anyways, it turns out the guy wanted a Llama logo combined with the awesome-face. This sounds very strange at first and attempting to design it is even stranger X_x.

At first, I felt this would be a very simple task, however after a few failed sketches I realized how hard it is to make an actual good looking llama (ready to be used for logoz!) This was quite a stump for me, after taking a day or so break and getting back into it, I managed to sketch three quick logo things (they do not look really like logos yet actually). However, I realized this was something I needed to talk to the person who requested it about. (obviously I am not getting the image right) Anyways, I sent him these quick sketches to see what style he wished for. He ended up choosing the one on the far right. That is where I currently am, so hopefully in my next post you will see the finished product.

Every year during the spring, I start on a video project for a music video contest. The source of all this is Anime and the music is typically not even created by the editors. However, this is a really popular hobby a lot of people are into (including myself). In short, these are called AMVs (Anime Music Videos). I know it sounds lame and pretty much dumb since it isn't our own music or source, however, it is our editing that is the key art to this.

A lot of people fail to realize the amount of time that goes into most Amvs that were done in non-linear programs. These videos go father beyond your basic iMovie or Windows Movie Maker.  Anyways, back to the contest I enter in ever year. I use to edit videos a lot, however I do not have much motivation to make a full video on my free time. Spring is the only time where I actually sit down to make a video. ANYWAYS, the video I made this year only took me one week (that is a big deal because typically it takes me months...) However, sadly, this year I did not make it into the finalists. It is alright though because this year we had a cash prize and that really increased the amount of people who entered the contest. (Man.. why does explaining amvs take up so much space? ) Even though I made the video in spring 2011, I have only recently cleaned the video up for online release. I believe it needs to be part of my collection of productive work...

Neurosis! I kind of wish I could show some before and after shots to show how much work really does go into these things. However, I actually had to uninstall the program to the video because the footage kept on lagging in it. I now have downgraded to a program I had before and like much better. Maybe next time I'll post some pictures on the process of these things.

I have always really liked youtube, ever since it got all popular.. however, I have always been kind of weary of uploading my own stuff to it (amvs, motion graphic pieces). I kind of rioted for a while when it came to uploading my own work. However, of course I caved in and made my own youtube account with my videos. However, that is not the productive part of this post..Youtube now has an option to make your own backgrounds. Due to an interesting past I've had with how I learned photoshop, (no I will not explain this :P ) I feel layouts such as this is what I really do love doing! The layout here was done fairly quickly. I usually would carry out a theme and have well maybe a character or more pictures on it. However, my goal is to use my own work when it comes to graphics (my own brushes and drawings. Thus for now I stayed pretty clean and did my best to make it look nice!

Next time!
  • Hopefully I will have my llama logo all done and shiny in my next post
  • More video editing stuff to come?
  • I also hope to have another drawing posted soon.

Stop That Shota!

Hello. Unsure how to start this...I do own about one or two other blogs, but they are more for personal stuff. I never have blogged about my "Artwork," but anyways I thought this is a good time in my life to really start recording how I improve in Traditional/Digital Art. I say Traditional and Digital because I love drawing and designing pieces in various programs. This ranges from Anime drawings to Typography. This blog is to record my improvement in all directions. Enjoy?~

I recently decided to draw something random in Sai. Sai is a program that is incredibly amazing for tablet owners, I like it  more than photoshop when it comes to sketching because it's pressure control of the pen is a lot smoother in my opinion.

I was really happy with the overall sketch, however there is one big problem. This was originally suppose to be a chick, however halfway through the sketch I noticed it looked more male and the shoulders were too broad. At this point, my laziness overcame me and I was like screw it! I love shotas anyway! However, a problem I was having before was drawing exactly what I imagined in my head. This time around aside from the gender confusion, I drew exactly what I thought of! Also, I am also getting more use to the anatomy of the body. (maybe because I took an anatomy class? O_o)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am not really use to coloring in Sai because I have always colored in photoshop. However, some fellow IRC users always told me they loved coloring in Sai, thus I decided to try it. Shading has always been my enemy, I do not know what's wrong with me, but I can never shade right... In this piece I think the shading came out pretty decent. Once I shaded the hair, the shirt and pants came pretty easy to do. Overall, I really loved coloring in Sai (more than photoshop actually...)
Once I was done coloring the dude (aside from the eye), I decided to bring it into photoshop. I am not too sure what was wrong with me, but I really did mess up on the eye. At first it was too big in the sketch so I made it smaller in photoshop, however something is still off...
Anways, the Shota is saying "Stop!" because he is an Uke and all Ukes need some Uke punch line. There is no deep meaning to this, but if you can think of one...well that's nice.Overall, I am not too proud of this piece because it looks off~
I'll make a list of things I am looking to improve on next time:
  1. Eyes! Make it the right proportion!  Color it better too ;_;
  2. Hands! It took me forever to do the hands on the Shota, I hate hands! I need to get better...
  3. Solid Lines! The lines on shota are alot smoother than how I usually draw, but I want it to be even more smooth
  4. BG! yeah as you can see I cheated by doing a fancy little background, I want to draw actual backgrounds next time...
Also, do not expect all my posts to be this long. I am a very lazy person.
